Time to wake up Canada...

I got this email from a friend of mine, and I never really realized that this is what our government does and it kind of makes me sick. I have a cousin who at the age of 23 he has already been through three tours of Afghanistan as a Army Reserve, well now he is joining the actually army and will be going back. I just cant fathom our government leaving a military persons family out on a limb like that.

Time To Wake Up Canada

A Canadian soldier who gets killed in Afghanistan, his family gets approx.

$12,000.00 for his death.

Their bank mortgage insurance has a war clause

that will not pay off their mortgage due to death during war.

Even though they knew he was a soldier when selling insurance.

When you leave the Forces due to injury, or full term retirement

you are treated like dog pooh by the Canadian Government.

Ask any retired service person.

Arar (what's his name), who the U.S. says has terrorist ties and deports

him to Syria for 4 years, comes back to Canada and tells how bad he was

treated, gets an apology from our government and 10 million DOLLARS for his pain.

People does this seem fair????

Has our government missed the boat on this or is it me?

Our soldier DIES ,and he's not worth that kind of money,

BUT an alleged terrorist gets 10 million dollars for pain & suffering,

where's the logic.

Wow they really know me well

You Are Fozzie Bear

"Wocka! Wocka!"
You're the life of the party, and you love making people crack up.
If only your routine didn't always bomb!
You may find more groans than laughs, but always keep the jokes coming.

Rascal Flatts Was Amazing

Last night was quite possibly the best concert I have been to in years, I know that doesn't say much considering I have only been to less then 10 in my life time. But I must say Rascal Flatts put on one heck of a good show. Some of the people at the 'dome watching it though...not so bright. We were all supposed to "light up the 'dome" when they played "Bless The Broken Road" however some idiots who obviously don't know their songs started lighting up things during "Skin" which then everybody did it. Then right after "Skin" they played "Bless The Broken Road" and not as many people were lighting up the 'dome, idiots!!

By the way Bless The Broken Road could quite possibly be my new favorite song, maybe...

Going To Rascal Flatts

So the time has finally come, Rascal Flatts is finally here. I just hope that I don't tear up with some of their songs, like some of them have been known to do to me.

Skin (Sarabeth): is just such a song, it has to do with a young cancer patient and what she is going through. This is very close to my heart as I have had an Aunt fight and beat cancer a few years ago. I have also seen my Grandpa lose his fight with lung cancer and a great aunt lose her fight with a brain tumor. This song by Rascal Flatts gives hope to those who have experienced this first hand as well as to their family. The last verse about the boy shaving his head for her is what always gets to me.

Skin lyrics

Sarabeth is scared to death
To hear what the doctor will say
She hasn't been well
Since the day that she fell
And the bruise, it just won't go away
So she sits and she waits with her mother and dad
Flips through an old magazine
Till the nurse with a smile
Stands at the door
And says will you please come with me

Sarabeth is scared to death
Cause the doctor just told her the news
Between the red cells and white
Something's not right
But we're gonna take care of you

Six chances in ten it won't come back again
With the therapy were gonna try
It's just been approved
It's the strongest there is
I think we caught it in time

Sarabeth closes her eyes
And she dreams she's dancing
Around and around without any cares
And her very first love is holding her close
And the soft wind is blowing her hair

Sarabeth is scared to death
As she sits holding her mom
Cause it would be a mistake
For someone to take
A girl with no hair to the prom

For, just this morning right there on her pillow
Was the cruelest of any surprise
And she cried when she gathered it all in her hands
The proof that she couldn't deny

Sarabeth closes her eyes
And she dreams she's dancing
Around and around without any cares
And her very first love was holding her close
And the soft wind is blowing her hair

Its quarter to seven
That boys at the door
And her daddy ushers him in
And when he takes off his cap
They all start to cry
Cause this mornin where his hair had been
Softly she touches just skin

And they go dancin
Around and around without any cares
And her very first true love is holding her close
And for a moment she isn't scared

Why?

I ask myself this a lot lately, why this and why that, and you know what I came up with. NOTHING! I don’t think anybody is ever meant to find out why. That is all part of life. God’s way of keeping you guessing. If one day I look back and say you know I think this is why. But until that day comes I will keep asking why.

I look at my life from time to time and I ask myself why, why did I do that, why didn’t I do that and why don’t I care. But then I realize I did that for a reason, or I didn’t do that because of the strange cosmic force surrounding that whole thing, or simply I do care why else would I wonder why I don’t care. It’s easy to loose sight of the things that are really important to you and even easier to loose sight of the things that just happen everyday in your life. However if you can look back and see everything that happened to you or everything that’s important to you, then I believe you can truly stop asking why.

I have so many good things going on in my life right now, I think I have finally come to the point where I can honestly stop asking why (for a while anyway). For the first time in a long time I am feeling like myself I am happy with what I am doing and with what is happening in my life. I have a wonderful girlfriend, a job I love - with the possibility of a new career starting, I have friends, which for most of my life have eluded me. Things are finally starting to fall into place and for that I am truly thankful.

Traffic Woes

So I have come to realize that in Calgary the second a little bit of snow falls to the ground people drive like idiots. This morning I was listening to the weather and road report and it said "leave early as the roads are bad." So I left before I normally would and I was still 10 minutes late for work this morning. I didn't find the roads all that bad except for the people who still want to drive like they do when there is no snow or ice on the ground. People speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, just plain stupid things to do. I was almost hit two or three times in a span of ten minutes. Not cool at all.

So come on people you can still drive normally just do it with a little more smarts.

One of the best stories I have ever read.

I don't know if this is a true story but I have to say no matter how many times I read it, I get goose bumps and I might tear up a bit.

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: "When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?"The audience was stilled by the query.
The father continued. "I believe that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child."
Then he told the following story:Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, "Do you think they'll let me play?" Shay's father knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.
Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, "We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning."
Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. His Father watched with a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father's joy at his son being accepted.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again.
Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?
Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball. However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.
The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher. The game would now be over.
The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, "Shay, run to first! Run to first!" Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.
Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second!" Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball ... the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.
Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home. All were screaming, "Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay"Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, "Run to third! Shay, run to third!"
As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, "Shay, run home! Run home!" Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.
"That day", said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, "the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world".Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

No matter what this story always brings things into perspective for me. Again just reading it while I write it, it has made me cry. This story is exactly why I do what I do.

How Dumb Some people are!!!

So I got this email and I just had to add it here some people are dumb, I always thought a peanut was bigger then the moon.

NEW YORK – Idaho resident Kathy Evans brought humiliation to her friends and family Tuesday when she set a new standard for stupidity with her appearance on the popular TV show, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." It seems that Evans, a 32-year-old wife and mother of two, got stuck on the first question, and proceeded to make what fans of the show are dubbing "the absolute worst use of lifelines ever."

After being introduced to the show's host Meredith Vieira, Evans assured her that she was ready to play, whereupon she was posed with an extremely easy $100 question. The question was:
"Which of the following is the largest?"
A) A Peanut
B) An Elephant
C) The Moon
D) Hey, who you calling large?

Immediately Mrs. Evans was struck with an all consuming panic as she realized that this was a question to which she did not readily know the answer.

"Hmm, oh boy, that's a toughie," said Evans, as Vieira did her level best to hide her disbelief and disgust. "I mean, I'm sure I've heard of some of these things before, but I have no idea how large they would be."

Evans made the decision to use the first of her three lifelines, the 50/50. Answers A and D were removed, leaving her to decide which was bigger, an elephant or the moon. However, faced with an incredibly easy question, Evans still remained unsure.

"Oh! It removed the two I was leaning towards!" exclaimed Evans. "Darn. I think I better phone a friend."

Using the second of her two lifelines on the first question, Mrs. Evans asked to be connected with her friend Betsy, who is an office assistant.

"Hi Betsy! How are you? This is Kathy! I'm on TV!" said Evans, wasting the first seven seconds of her call. "Ok, I got an important question. Which of the following is the largest? B, an elephant, or C, the moon. 15 seconds hun."

Betsy quickly replied that the answer was C, the moon. Evans proceeded to argue with her friend for the remaining ten seconds.

"Come on Betsy, are you sure?" said Evans. "How sure are you? Puh, that can't be it."
To everyone's astonishment, the moronic Evans declined to take her friend's advice and pick 'The Moon.'

"I just don't know if I can trust Betsy. She's not all that bright. So I think I'd like to ask the audience," said Evans.

Asked to vote on the correct answer, the audience returned 98% in favor of answer C, 'The Moon.' Having used up all her lifelines, Evans then made the dumbest choice of her life.

"Wow, seems like everybody is against what I'm thinking," said the too-stupid-to-live Evans. "But you know, sometimes you just got to go with your gut. So, let's see. For which is larger, an elephant or the moon, I'm going to have to go with B, an elephant. Final answer." Evans sat before the dumbfounded audience, the only one waiting with bated breath, and was told that she was wrong, and that the answer was in fact, C, 'The Moon.'

Equal Rights

OK so the other day I was talking with a friend and they told me about this new thing that the Canadian Government was wanting to implement on every women who gets pregnant in Canada. I guess what they want to do is make it mandatory that every women gets tested to make sure their baby is going to turn out "normal". I don't know what the actual test is called but they want to make it mandatory, so with the off chance that your baby is "not normal" the mother or parents can have it aborted.

No when I first heard this it royally pissed me off, and I didn't understand how a government can make this decision and try to eliminate a whole race of people. Now I work at a Not-For-Profit that benefits people with disabilities and I also volunteer with special Olympics, so I might be some what bias in this government initiative that they are trying to start. But come on, the whole thing they are trying to do by making "perfect" people, come on isn't this the exact thing Hitler wanted to do in Germany and look where that got him.

It sickens me that people now a days can still look at a person, with any disability, and either turn up their nose at them or think that a person with a disability can be just discarded and forgot about. I would love for one of those pompous jerks that are trying to get this thing passed to come out to one of my practices and see just how "not normal" my athletes really are, and I would hope that it would change their mind and see that they can lead a normal life just like the rest of us "normal" people.

My first Time

Ok, So here it is my first post. Not sure what I'm supposed to write about so really this is going to be a boring read for anybody, but I was told by my girlfriend that this is the way to go for writing what you think so I guess I can try. Hmmmm. Still nothing well at least I tried, maybe tomorrow. Oh I'm sure that I will come up with the interesting things to write one day...Hopefully.

Well then lets raise our glasses and toast, "to me for finally trying out this blog thing." Yeah Me.
